ACC’s Honors Program hosts banned book celebration

Austin Community College’s Honors Program hosts “Banned,” a celebration honoring Banned Books Week, from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, at ACC Riverside Campus, Room 8100 (1020 Grove Blvd.).

The event explores the dangers and harm of censorship in American society and includes readings of banned works and authors.

Banned Books Week is an annual awareness campaign founded in 1982 to encourage readers to study challenged literary works and to promote intellectual freedom in libraries, schools, and bookstores.

In previous years, the Honors Program has showcased works ranging from “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and “Lolita” to more modern works such as the Harry Potter series, “Cinderella,” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments are provided. Some content is explicit.

For more information about the event, contact Professor Prudence Arceneaux at 512-223-6555 or [email protected].
