The Austin Community College District (ACC) invites the community to wear their Riverbats gear or go purple and join the college in celebration of the fifth birthday of the Riverbat, ACC’s official mascot, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Riverside Campus (1020 Grove Blvd.).
The celebration, hosted by the college in partnership with ACC Student Life, will include games, music, giveaways, and refreshments.
The Riverbat brings joy and positive energy wherever he goes.
Students, community guests, and college leaders will celebrate the Riverbat’s contributions to building a community spirit at the college and promoting higher education at local events. The City of Austin also will present a proclamation declaring November 18, 2015 as ACC Riverbat Day.
“The Riverbat brings joy and positive energy wherever he goes. He resonates with our students, business partners, and youngest generations,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC President and CEO. “More important, he symbolizes ACC’s mission and values and he’s about the only person at the college who can interrupt a class in the middle of a lecture and have a professor stop teaching to pose for a photo.”
Known as RB, the Riverbat spreads the message “You can be anything you want to be.” He averages approximately six to 10 community appearances a month and has appeared at more than 230 events in front of more than 224,000 people in his five years.
Following the celebration at Riverside Campus, RB will travel across Austin in a special ride courtesy Henna Chevrolet, making the following appearances:
- 11:30 a.m. – Austin ISD’s Allison Elementary School (515 Vargas Rd.)
- 1 p.m. – ACC Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd.)
- 3 p.m. – ACC Rio Grande Campus (1212 Rio Grande)
- 5 p.m. ACC Highland Campus (6101 Airport Blvd.)
Student Life also will host events at every campus featuring refreshments and Riverbat giveaways.
