Free college prep course application deadline extended

It’s not too late! Enrollment for Austin Community College’s Transitions Program, a free college preparation course for adults, is extended. Applications will be accepted through Monday, January 25.

The free program helps high school graduates and GED earners get ready for college. Students attend workshops and classes focused on reading, writing, and math and learn proven study strategies for college entrance exams and tests.

“This is an intense, but powerful program. When students leave here they have the skill set for success,” says Charlene Gill, Transitions coordinator. “They learn how to take notes, how to manage their time effectively, and how to balance work, life, and school.”

Participants receive one-on-one advising including career and college counseling and individualized help completing applications for college admission and financial aid.

The 12-week course begins in early February with day and evening classes at Highland Campus (6101 Airport Blvd.).

Participants must be 18 or older, with a GED or high school diploma. Current and former Developmental Education students are encouraged to apply. Applicants participate in a brief interview before enrolling and must maintain an 85 percent attendance rate for the course.
