Austin Community College (ACC) invites the community to stargaze at its first star party of the semester Friday, February 19, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Round Rock Campus (4400 College Park Dr.).
“This is a great opportunity for ACC students and other members of the community to experience the wonders of the sky, and hear about some cutting-edge research,” says Dr. Jim Heath, ACC professor of astronomy. “With our partners we are able to offer unique educational tools to our students.”
The free event features planetarium shows, a presentation on Planet 9, and a rooftop guided viewing of the night sky.
- 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Enjoy shows in the Austin Planetarium Discovery Dome, a digital mobile planetarium (Building 2000, lobby).
- 7 – 8 p.m. –“Planet 9 and Visiting Pluto: New Discoveries in Our Old Solar System,” a presentation by ACC astronomy professor Dr. Michael Endl (Building 3000, Room 339).
- 8 – 9:30 p.m. – Observe the night sky through the Physical Sciences Department’s telescopes (Building 3000).
