The Austin Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) has donated $10,000 to the Austin Community College Foundation to support students in ACC’s hospitality programs.
“The demand for hospitality professionals in Central Texas is growing rapidly. Continued support for student success from our industry community has been essential for learning and career opportunities,” says Michelle Fitzpatrick, chair of ACC’s Hospitality Management Department. “It’s important to do everything we can to accelerate students’ completion by providing financial support in addition to preparing them to be the best candidates within the hospitality industry.”
ACC offers associate degrees and certificates in hospitality management, culinary arts, travel and tourism, and meeting and event planning. Students get hands-on training using the latest equipment and have access to internship opportunities through extensive industry partnerships.
Since 2008, 29 students in the college’s hospitality programs have received scholarships through the AHLA endowment fund. The AHLA also provides mentoring programs for ACC students.
Students may apply now for 2016-17 scholarships. Scholarships are awarded through the college’s General Scholarship application, available online at austincc.edu/scholarships.
