Austin Community College student Rawan Fakhreddine won ACC’s 2016 Eco Bag Art contest.
Faculty, staff, and students selected Fakhreddine’s colorful design during Earth Week, April 18-22. It will be printed on reusable bags that will be displayed on campuses and distributed at events for the next year. Bags also will be available for purchase. Details will be posted on the Eco Bag webpage.
Fakhreddine, who plans to major in neuroscience and hopes to transfer to the University of Texas at Austin in spring, says she wanted to illustrate that ecosystems are connected and interdependent, and highlight the importance of protecting them.
“I wanted to portray all aspects of the environment and nature. What better way to do that than to use Mother Nature as the main inspiration,” she says.
Student Dina Williams earned honorable mention for her design. She will receive a Timbuk2 backpack.
The eco bag contest was one of many activities in a rainy but busy week of wellness walks, community cleanup, gardening, and earth-friendly fun.
