‘Embracing Equity’ event Sept. 13 addresses success for men of color

Austin Community College faculty and staff are invited to attend a half-day interactive event to explore how systems and success pathways can be improved to better serve boys and men of color.

Austin Opportunity Youth Collaboration logo“Embracing Equity: A Call to Action to Improve the Lives of Young Men of Color” is 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, at Eastview Campus (Multipurpose Room 8500). The event is presented by the Austin Opportunity Youth Collaborative (AOYC) and co-sponsored by ACC, The Aspen Institute, TG, Workforce Solutions Capital Area, and Goodwill of Central Texas.

Conference presentations and guided workshops will examine how to turn data into actionable strategies, and will culminate with perspectives from an AOYC youth panel. While the event focuses on outcomes for young men of color, the discussions apply to all disadvantaged communities, regardless of race and gender.

Guest facilitators are Arnold Chandler and Tia Martinez, principals of San Francisco-based Forward Change Consulting.

The free event is open to the public and breakfast is provided. A $10 suggested donation supports the AOYC Youth Ambassador Program.
