“ACC Votes,” a non-partisan initiative of the Austin Community College District (ACC), is hosting a voter registration rally from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, September 27, at Highland Campus (6101 Airport Blvd.) in honor National Voter Registration Day.
The rally features guest speaker Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar Bruce Elfant, and others.
ACC will host additional registration drives on each campus. The deadline to register to vote this fall is Tuesday, October 11. Election Day is Tuesday, November 8.
Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community will have the opportunity to register to vote, check voter status, and obtain information on what is needed to cast a vote in Texas. Information also will be available for those who have recently relocated or may be voting for the first time.
“Austin Community College is committed to reinforcing the importance of civic participation among our students,” says Dr. Molly Beth Malcolm, ACC vice president of community engagement and public affairs. “Voting is the most basic way our citizens can have a voice, and we encourage all of our eligible students to get registered and exercise their rights.”
Hosted by the Student Government Association and the Community Engagement and Public Affairs Division, the celebration is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
