Austin Community College (ACC) will host a symposium on Texas history 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 15, at Eastview Campus, Building 8000, Room 8500 (3401 Webberville Rd.).

“Lots of Law East of the Pecos” will feature two talks on law enforcement in Texas history:

• ACC Professor Kemp Dixon will discuss his father’s experience as a Texas Ranger in the mid-20th century.
• Houston Community College professor Theresa Jach will speak on convict lease labor in the state during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

“We’re taking a critical look back in time,” says Cam Addis, ACC history professor. “Students will discover a deeper understanding of our state’s law enforcement history.”

The event, presented by ACC’s History Department, is free and open to the public. Refreshments are provided.
