ACC examines global impact of infectious diseases

Austin Community College will present a discussion of the worldwide impact of globalization and infectious diseases in its fall global issues speaker series.

The presentation is Wednesday, November 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Eastview Campus, Room 8500 (3401 Webberville Rd.). ACC Biology Professor Dr. Rodney E. Rohde will discuss healthcare associated infections and their worldwide impact.

“The globalization of infectious diseases continues to dominate the headlines on an almost daily basis,” says Dr. Rohde. “If action is not taken to curb the spread of antibiotic resistance, the current situation could spiral out of control, rendering current drugs completely ineffective. We’ll examine how healthcare associated infections are growing, the medical laboratorians and hygiene specialists who fight them, and what could happen if we don’t stop the spread.”

The event, presented by ACC’s International Programs Office, is free and open to the public.
