Austin Community College now offers a degree and a certificate for individuals seeking a career in the growing field of logistics and global supply chain management.
Beginning in spring students can earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Logistics and Global Supply Chain Management or a Level I certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Specialist. The program prepares students for careers in transportation, warehousing, distribution, inventory control, purchasing, and international logistics. The certificate option allows quick entry into the field.
“Students will explore logistics principles and practices. It’s a skill set area employers are increasingly seeking,” says Bill Louden, chair of the International Business Department, which oversees the program.
The number of logistics and supply chain management jobs in Central Texas is projected to grow 47 percent over the next six years, three times the national average. Through 2022 the region is expected to add 750 new jobs requiring an associate degree and another 590 entry-level jobs for individuals possessing a certificate.
“Students will graduate with the managerial skills employers are looking for,” Louden says. “We’re working with area businesses to ensure our students also get hands-on internship training opportunities.”
