Austin Community College will break ground Tuesday on a Round Rock Campus expansion that will feature new and advanced education and training facilities. The 10 a.m. groundbreaking event is free and open to the public.

The second phase project will add a 45,000-square-foot general education building and renovation of existing facilities in support of several programs, particularly those for high-demand healthcare careers such as nursing, sonography and surgical technology. The campus capacity will increase from 5,000 to 6,000 students.

Plans call for the Round Rock campus to feature:

  1. A 12,000 square-foot ACCelerator learning lab, with more than 140 special-equipped computer stations
  2. Additional nursing simulation space and sonography patient bays
  3. 13 additional classrooms
  4. 25 additional faculty offices
  5. Expanded and improved student services areas.

“The Round Rock campus has played an important role in supporting the rapidly growing communities in and around Williamson County,” ACC President/CEO Richard Rhodes said in a statement. “”The expanded facilities will help ensure we continue to deliver the early, acceptable opportunities for education and training the region needs and values.”

The new building is scheduled to open summer 2018.
