Austin Community College presented more than 5,200 children’s books to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office for its Brown Santa program Tuesday, December 5, at Highland Campus.
Sponsored by the college’s Student Government Association (SGA), the drive benefits children of low-income families.
“As fortunate as many of us may be during the holidays, we should never forget that many continue to struggle. These donations represent the spirit of keeping our friends and neighbors in mind and providing for those who are less fortunate,” says Richard Vega, ACC SGA president. “Each book sparks a child’s imagination and creativity.”
Since its launch, the college’s annual holiday book drive has collected more than 28,000 books for the Brown Santa program.
“Brown Santa helps more than 1,000 families in Travis County,” says Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez. “We could not do it without your support and your efforts.”
This year, partners include ACC’s Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Delta Kappa chapters, the ACC Police Department and Classified Employees Association, Adjunct Faculty, and Male Leadership Program.
