Austin Community College celebrates the 48th annual Earth Day April 22 with a week of sustainability events beginning Monday, April 16. The events highlight the college’s commitment to sustainable practices and engage students, faculty, and staff. For 2018, there are more than 25 events across 7 ACC locations!

Join the Building and Construction Department in learning more about sustainable building practices for the 21st century. With new technology afoot, you’ll have a hands-on opportunity to see what to expect in the future of construction. Northridge Campus – Mockingbird Garden Tour
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the patio between buildings 1000 & 4000
The Mockingbird Garden welcomes you visit the campus community garden. Take a tour or get your hands a little dirty in the garden by doing one of the following: planting, mulching, pulling weeds building a trellis and more. We will be giving out samples of fresh herbs. ACC Energy Conservation Manager Caleb Crow will demonstrate how much energy can be saved by simply turning out lights when they are not needed. Eastview Campus – Butterfly Garden Dig In

Join the EVC Green Team in beautifying the campus with sustainable landscaping. The team will be digging out weeds and preparing the soil for our future butterfly garden. You can also sign up to join the Green Team to help complete the garden and participate in future events. Please dress appropriately with sturdy shoes and long pants. Bring water and wear sunscreen. Elgin Campus – Bird Feeder Activity

The Elgin Campus grounds are full of beautiful and fascinating birds. We strive to provide resources birds need to survive, reproduce, and migrate. Birds need a variety of resources throughout the year. A healthy habitat would include access for food, shelter, and water. Elgin Campus – Riverbat Lights Out

Riverbat Lights Out is a self-check of an ACC campus to determine if we are using our energy and financial resources appropriately. Come help identify lights commonly left on at the Eastview Campus that could safely be turned off to save energy. A short discussion by Caleb Crow, ACC’s Energy Conservation Manager will start at 10:30 a.m. in the Multipurpose Room #1143 followed by a campus walk and discussion of findings.
