Austin Community College (ACC) invites the community to the 12th annual Día de la Familia Festival Saturday, April 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverside Campus (1020 Grove Blvd.).
The interactive, family-friendly event celebrates the culture and traditions of the surrounding ACC neighborhoods and gives visitors a chance to learn about ACC’s workforce programs. College staff will be present to answer questions about the enrollment process, financial aid, and adult education including the ESL/ESOL and GED programs.
Los Texas Wranglers, the McCallum High School Ballet Folklorico, and the Ortega Elementary School Superstar Choir will provide entertainment. There also will be children’s activities including balloon animals and face-painting. Refreshments are provided.
Día de la Familia is part of the college’s ongoing efforts to reach the growing number of Hispanic families in Central Texas and build a college-going culture. In fall 2017, ACC enrolled more than 14,700 Hispanic credit students, 36 percent of the total credit student body. The college is certified as a Hispanic Serving Institution, a federal designation indicating the college maintains 25 percent or greater full-time equivalent Hispanic enrollment.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Latino/Latin American Studies Center at 512-223-6360 or email Yolanda Sánchez at [email protected].
