Austin Community College (ACC) is collecting donations for its annual “I Can Read!” children’s book drive benefiting the Travis County Sheriff’s Office’s Brown Santa Program for families in need.
“It’s important to remember that everyone is not as fortunate this time of year and to give back,” says Emmanuel Cuevas, president of the ACC Student Government Association (SGA), which is sponsoring the book drive. “Every book and puzzle a student gets is a chance to unlock their creativity and develop fundamental skills.”
Donations of new and gently used books, games, and puzzles are being accepted at any ACC Police Office until November 30. Monetary donations can also be dropped off to the SGA Mailbox on the Highland Campus.
The donations will be presented to Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez at Highland Campus’ Social Staircase (6101 Highland Campus Dr.) on Wednesday, December 5, at 10:30 a.m. The college’s annual book drive has collected more than 28,000 books for the Brown Santa Program since its launch in 2009.
This year’s partners include Male Leadership Program, Alpha Delta Kappa, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, ACC’s Adjunct Faculty Association, ACC’s Classified Employees Association, and ACC’s Student Life Office.
