Austin Community College (ACC) celebrated Riverbats Day on Wednesday, November 14, to commemorate the 8th birthday of the college’s beloved mascot, R.B. the Riverbat.
In honor of Riverbats Day, and to promote access to higher education, the community was encouraged to wear purple. The ACC website turned purple for the day and the lights at ACC Highland also turned purple.
R.B. and Board of Trustee Chair, Dr. Barbara Mink, started the day at Reilly Elementary School. They met with a group of first and second grade students to talk about college. Dr. Mink read a children’s book titled “Stellaluna” and engaged the students in bat trivia.
Following the visit, R.B. made stops at South Austin Campus and ACC Highland. The college also released a remix of the R.B. Step developed and performed by ACC student mascot Shilda Fresch. As an ACC mascot, Shilda travels across the service area representing ACC and spreading the word of our mission.
