Spring 2023 Graduation Spotlight: Meet Sarai Anzaldo Hudson

Spring 2023 Congrats Grads!

Austin Community College District (ACC) celebrates more than 2,740 graduates at its spring 2023 commencement ceremony. This commencement ceremony marks the college’s 50th anniversary.

Friends and family are invited to congratulate students Friday, May 12, at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park.

One of those students is Sarai Anzaldo Hudson. She came to ACC through support from the college’s partnership with Capital IDEA, which provides personalized assistance and support to eligible students. Hear more about Sarai’s journey to ACC.

Being part of Capital Idea has been a blessing and honor. College was never something I thought I would consider, let alone accomplish. I have difficulty hearing and communicating. The school was always a challenge for me, making me very scared to continue my education. In 2016, I had my son Ruben. As a single mom, I knew I had to do better for myself and my son, Ruben. I prayed to God that if he helped me get approved for Capital Idea and opened the doors, I knew I could continue with school. I couldn’t believe that there was a program like this that helped pay for school.

In 2018, I was a part of Capital Idea and was overjoyed to continue my prerequisites for the Dental Hygiene program. Mrs. Sara Hernandez and career navigators Lori and Damiana were always encouraging and supportive. I like that ACC has incorporated ACCelerators, where I spent much time studying. They have many services and support, and I am extremely grateful to be an ACC student. It took me 5 years to complete prerequisites while working and 2 years in the Dental Hygiene program. 2021 was the first year that the Dental Hygiene program accepted 8 more students than usual. Usually, the program only accepts about 16 students out of more than 100 that apply, and applying for the program only happens once a year. I was one of those students! As a dental hygienist, I educate patients on preventive oral hygiene and clean teeth to aid overall health. I am so happy to be able to graduate soon!

I love learning about the body and teeth. I love when I can make a difference in someone’s life. I hope to be an encouragement to future students and my community. I look forward to working and spending time with my son and family, and I also love to volunteer at church and in my community. I plan to pursue a bachelor’s in the near future at Texas Woman’s University.

What would I tell someone considering applying for college? Definitely put everything in God’s hands and never give up!

Thank you, Capital Idea, for investing in my and my son’s futures!
