Austin Community College District’s (ACC) Black Representation of Achievement Through Student Support (BRASS) program held its graduation reception Friday, May 5 at ACC Rio Grande Campus.

The reception, hosted in partnership with Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Center (THRT), highlighted the accomplishments of Black/African-American students at ACC. 22 students were recognized. Family, friends, faculty, and staff were in attendance to celebrate their achievements.

The graduates were provided with a black/gold graduation cord, a frame to hold their degree/certificate, and a recognition of achievement inspirational certificate from BRASS. ACC Student Government Association President Kay Trent and ACC Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Dr. Shasta Buchanan provided inspirational words to motivate and congratulate the graduates.

BRASS is designed to support the unique needs and interests of Black students in the higher education environment. For more information, email [email protected] or visit austincc.edu/brass.

The TRHT Campus Center’s mission is to eliminate barriers that reinforce differential outcomes by race, build cross-racial relationships that lead to racial healing, and explore ways to transform while creating narratives that can influence people’s perspectives, perceptions, and behaviors about and toward one another.
