Nurses continue to make up the biggest population in the healthcare profession, but a growing shortage among nurses could soon impact patient care in Central Texas. 

To help meet this need, Austin Community College District (ACC) announces an extended deadline to apply for the RN-to-BSN program. The special bachelor’s degree program provides registered nurses (RNs) a path to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Students now have until Friday, August 11, to apply for the fall cohort.

According to Texas Health and Human Services, demand for BSN-credentialed nurses will outpace supply by 2032. As a result, there will be a shortage of more than 57,000 nurses, leaving more than 15% of nursing vacancies in Texas. Earning a BSN also leads to improved patient outcomes, with a 2.12 out of 1,000 mortality reduction associated with a 10-point increase employing BSN nurses. Obtaining a BSN can increase career pathways and job opportunities. 

ACC’s RN-to-BSN program offers an affordable, high-quality path to advanced nursing careers. The program provides students with knowledge in health policy, community and public health, research, evidence-based nursing, and leadership and management skills. 

The program offers a full-time option that can be completed in three semesters as well as a part-time option with completion possible in five semesters. The college offers on-campus, hybrid, and online options to meet all student demands and requests.
