ACC celebrates 2024 Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation week

Austin Community College District (ACC) hosts a series of events for National Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) Week 2024, January 15-19. ACC students, faculty, staff, and the community are invited to participate. 

The events are centered around this year’s theme: “Belonging & Purpose Cannot Happen Without Love.”

ACC’s TRHT Center has partnered with the college’s Culinary Department, The Art Galleries at ACC, the Austin Public Library, and more to present in-person and virtual events, which include a culinary demonstration, racial healing circles, roundtable discussions, panels, workshops, and art exhibits.

MLK ORATORY COMPETITION

In honor of MLK Day, the TRHT Center hosts an in-person youth oratorical competition on Thursday, January 11. The 2024 MLK Oratory Competition is for fourth through sixth grade students from Austin-area schools. They will share their dream of equality with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as if he were alive today.

MLK COMMUNITY MARCH

ACC also is participating in the annual MLK Community March on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 15. 

MLK Community March –– MARCH SHORTENED & FESTIVAL POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER
Date: Monday, January 15
Time: 9 a.m. 
Location: Starts at the MLK statue on the University of Texas campus with a short program. The march will then head to the south steps of the Capitol. The rally and festival scheduled at Huston-Tillotson University has been postponed.
