ACC hosts training and panel discussion for student parents through FamilyU experience

Austin Community College District (ACC) is looking into the experiences of our students who are parents. The college hosts a special FamilyU panel discussion on Thursday, February 1, to share insights and hear directly from student parents.

The event is open to students and employees. Participants will learn more about the work happening between the college and Generation Hope.

Date: Thursday, February 1
Time: 9 a.m.
Location: ACC Highland Campus, Make It Center

The event will include a look at training developed by Student Parent Fellow Kristan Hennessy. Kristan was one of only seven students nationwide selected to serve as the Student Parent Fellow. She serves as the liaison between administration and student parents and works alongside staff to make decisions that benefit student parents.

Additionally, there will be a panel discussion featuring ACC students. They will discuss their experiences at the college as a student parent. Participants will learn more about the FamilyU experience and what student parents can expect from the two-year experience.

ACC was selected, along with 6 other colleges and universities, by Generation Hope to participate in the FamilyU Cohort. The FamilyU program is designed to help the college evaluate and improve institutional support for students who are parents in four competency areas, including data, policy, culture and people. The FamilyU program has helped ACC create a tailored action plan to enhance the college experience for ACC’s parenting students.
