ACC Hosts Austin Trades Day, Inspiring the Next Generation of Skilled Workers

Austin Community College District (ACC) hosts Austin Trades Day to introduce high school students to careers in skilled trades, construction, engineering, and design through interactive activities and hands-on learning experiences led by industry professionals.

“Austin Trades Day will give students a firsthand look at the many career opportunities available in the trades, allowing them to envision a future in fields critical to Texas’s infrastructure and economy,” says Troy DeFrates, interim dean of Design, Manufacturing, Construction & Applied Tech.

Austin Infrastructure Academy

The event also highlights the Austin Infrastructure Academy at ACC. This new initiative will provide specialized training in construction, electrical work, HVAC, plumbing, and other essential fields to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in Texas.

The Infrastructure Academy will serve as a training hub, enhancing a robust network of community-based and union-based training programs. Programs developed and offered through the Academy will address the immediate needs of both employers and job seekers, ensuring that training aligns with current workforce demands. In addition to education and hands-on training, the Academy will offer support services to help guide students from training to job placement, creating a seamless pathway to career success.
