ACC named a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for college student voting

Austin Community College District (ACC) has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting.

The ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting recognizes colleges and universities for outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation.

“At ACC, we believe voting is not only a right, it’s a vital way to shape the future,” says Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart, ACC Chancellor. “Every voice matters, and empowering our students to participate in the democratic process is central to our mission of fostering engaged, informed, and active citizens. We’re honored to be recognized as one of the Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting in 2024 by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. This recognition reflects our commitment to creating a culture where students feel supported, inspired, and equipped to lead in their communities, starting at the ballot box.”

ACC joins a group of 471 colleges and universities recognized by ALL IN for completing four core actions:

“The research is clear: colleges and universities that make intentional efforts to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement have higher campus voter registration and voter turnout rates. This year we saw more colleges than ever before step up their efforts to ensure that their students were registered and ready to make their voices heard at the ballot box,” says Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “These Most Engaged Campuses are setting the standard for nonpartisan civic engagement work for colleges and universities across the country.”

During this election season, ACC developed a special guide and interactive map online to help students find nearby polling locations and learn about their ballots. Several campuses also served as official voting sites.

To encourage students to cast their ballot, ACC hosted a series of events, including parades to the polls from campuses across the district and a FREE concert with Jessie Murph. The concert — sponsored by Levi’s® and SHOWTIME/MTV Entertainment Studios (MTV) in partnership with the Students Learn Students Vote (SLSV) Coalition, the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, and Good Trouble Collaborative — was part of the nonpartisan Community College Concert Competition.

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge recognizes these efforts as among the most engaging nationwide. Learn more about the ALL IN Challenge here
