Each year, dozens of local foster youth graduate from high school and begin life on their own, often with little more than a plastic bag to carry their belongings. Austin Community College District (ACC) wants to change that through ACC’s Annual Foster Care Luggage Drive.
How You Can Help
Donate a Suitcase:
You can drop off new or gently used carry-on-size rolling suitcases at any ACC Student Advocacy Center, located on every campus.
Make a Monetary Donation:
Visit the ACC Marketplace web page to contribute. A $45 donation covers the full cost of one new carry-on rolling duffel, but any amount makes a difference.
The drive is organized by the ACC Student Advocacy Center, and all contributions benefit the Department of Family and Protective Services’ Preparation for Adult Living (PAL) program. Donations will be accepted through May 31.
In 2024, the Department of Family & Protective Services received more than $2,300 and 30 pieces of luggage. About 50 ACC employees donated. This year, they hope to collect 50 pieces of luggage.
ACC provides wraparound support to students who have aged out of foster care, including case management, academic advising, and guidance. Additionally, students are connected to local and national supporting organizations. For more information, visit austincc.edu/sas.
