ACC Earns Veterans Gold Award from Texas Veterans Commission for Educational Excellence

Austin Community College District (ACC) has once again been honored with the Gold Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award (VEERA) by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC). The Gold distinction is the highest level of recognition and highlights ACC’s continued excellence in serving veteran and military-connected students.

“Our goal is to ensure every military-affiliated student has the resources and guidance they need to succeed academically, personally, and professionally,” says Jason Briseno, Executive Dean of Financial Assistance and Veterans Affairs. “This recognition reaffirms the impact of our dedicated resources and programs. Year after year, we see veterans at ACC achieving their academic goals, transferring to universities, or moving directly into the workforce with the skills and confidence they need to thrive.”

The Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award was established by the Texas Legislature to acknowledge colleges and universities that provide outstanding education and support services to veterans. Institutions may be recognized at Gold, Silver, or Bronze levels based on the depth of services they provide.

Governor Greg Abbott congratulated this year’s recipients, stating:

“Colleges and universities across Texas offer world-class resources and educational support to the brave men and women who served in our nation’s military. I thank these institutions for their ongoing efforts to provide wide-ranging services for student veterans and veterans’ children as they pursue opportunities in higher education. Texans are forever indebted to our veterans and their families and will continue to support their success so they can thrive in the greatest state in the greatest country in the history of the world.”

TVC Chairwoman Laura Koerner added:

“Education is key to a veteran’s personal well-being and long-term quality of life. These colleges and universities ensure our veterans and their dependents receive the quality education they have earned in an environment that cultivates their academic success. Congratulations and thank you to these schools for their top-notch higher education opportunities.”

ACC’s Veterans Resource Center (VRC), located at the Highland Campus, serves as a hub for military-affiliated students. Since opening in 2018, the VRC has provided tailored academic advising, financial aid assistance, emotional support, and community connections. The center also organizes outreach initiatives to promote the success and well-being of veterans and their families.
