Austin Community College District (ACC) Chancellor Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart has been named to the Austin Business Journal’s (ABJ) 2025 Power Players list, recognizing influential leaders shaping the future of Central Texas.
The annual list, now in its third year, is curated by ABJ’s newsroom to spotlight individuals in our community who are driving the region’s economy, innovation, and progress. This year’s honorees include a mix of leaders from across industries — from technology and education to healthcare, real estate, and the arts.
Dr. Lowery-Hart’s inclusion highlights ACC’s growing role as a key driver of talent and opportunity in Central Texas. Since joining the College in 2023, he has championed a bold vision to transform higher education by putting students at the center of everything ACC does, including expanding access, improving student outcomes, and aligning education with the region’s workforce needs.
“This honor reflects the power of what happens when a college and its community share one vision — a Central Texas where every person has a pathway to prosperity,” says Dr. Lowery-Hart. “We’re building an ecosystem. When education, industry, and local leaders come together, we create real opportunity. This is not just for our students, but for every family and business in Central Texas. Together, we’re building a stronger workforce, a more resilient economy, and a more connected community.”
Under his leadership, ACC has strengthened partnerships with local employers, expanded innovative workforce programs in high-demand fields like semiconductor manufacturing and advanced technology, and reimagined student support systems to better meet the needs of working adults and families. He also established the Office for the Future to lead efforts that ensure ACC builds programs with responsive learning that address changing workforce needs.
