Austin Community College Closed January 19 in Observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Spring registration remains open; Classes begin Tuesday, January 20

Austin Community College District (ACC) will be closed on Monday, January 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In honor of the day, ACC will participate in an event to honor Dr. King’s life and contributions. The event is free and open to the public.

Austin MLK Day March | 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

The annual community march celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy. Participants will gather at the Martin Luther King Jr. Statue at The University of Texas for a short program, followed by a march to the Texas State Capitol. Afterward, festivities will continue at Huston-Tillotson University, featuring food, music, and local vendors. 

This annual federal holiday provides an opportunity for reflection, learning, and community connection. Throughout the week, ACC will offer events as part of Truth, Community Healing & Transformation Week. These events are designed to support belonging, well-being, and open dialogue across the ACC community. All are welcome to participate.

National Day of Truth, Community Healing & Transformation

  • Date: Tuesday, January 21 
  • Time: 11:30 a.m.
  • Location: Austin Public Library
  • What: Celebration of arts, fellowship meal, and community healing circle. 

Anonymous Conversations

  • Date: Thursday, January 22
  • Time: Noon
  • Location: Zoom
  • What: Participants will be placed in breakout rooms to have anonymous conversations to explore new perspectives, focusing on dialogue, discovery, and shared humanity.

The Ultimate Potted Plant Workshop

  • Date: Friday, January 23
  • Time: Noon
  • Location: Truth, Community Healing & Transformation Center, ACC Highland Campus, Building 4000
  • What: Join us to plant intentions for 2026, decorate pots, and explore what it means to nurture ourselves with care, consistency, and compassion. Through guided conversation, participants reflect on growth and embracing the freedom to begin again.
