From ACC to Texas State: 2026 Grad Klarissa R. Turns Determination into a Bats to Cats Success Story

For Klarissa Robledo, college wasn’t just about earning a degree—it was about proving to herself that she could keep going, even when everything felt overwhelming.

Now 22, the journalism graduate began her journey at Austin Community College District (ACC) in fall 2023, choosing ACC as a practical and flexible option while working full-time. Now she is preparing to transfer to Texas State University through ACC’s Bats to Cats program, a milestone that reflects years of persistence, balance, and growth.

“I chose ACC because it was the right path financially for me and because I’m a full-time working student.”

During her time at ACC, Klarissa has balanced a demanding schedule—taking classes while working 40 to 50 hours a week. Managing that pace wasn’t easy.

“One challenge I was able to overcome is handling a full plate. I was having such a hard time mentally. I couldn’t organize my personal life, work life, and my school life all together. Eventually, I was able to grasp and find a routine and was able to pull through. It wasn’t easy, but I’m so proud I was able to finally breathe.”

Through that experience, she says ACC provided the structure and support she needed to stay on track with flexible scheduling, smaller classes, and clear transfer pathways that made her next step possible.

Now, through Bats to Cats, everything is lined up for her transition to Texas State, where she’ll major in Mass Communications and minor in Journalism.

“I’m on the Bats to Cats program that ACC offers, and I will be going to Texas State starting in the fall. Everything is ready and set to go for Texas State, and I’m so excited for my next beginning.”

As graduation approaches, Klarissa says something has shifted.

“As classes are wrapping up and I’m reaching my next step in life, I actually realize that I am ready. I’ve never felt this sense of relief before. I really feel like I’m growing up.”

That readiness is hard-earned and deeply meaningful as a first-generation college student.

“‘It’s just an associate (degree)’ is probably the most common thing said. Not for me and not for my family. This is an achievement. I’m making my mom proud, and I’m so ready for my next achievements and steps in life. This is only the beginning.”

As she prepares to take the next step, Klarissa leaves behind a message for others considering college:

“My advice for someone considering college is to take it slow and not rush things. Enjoy and choose what’s best for you, not what others want or what others are doing. You will only achieve what you put your heart into.”
