“My whole life, I have dedicated myself to pursuing nursing.” | Meet ACC nursing graduate Nadia V.

This spring, more than 3,700 Riverbat students are invited to participate in the Austin Community 2026 Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 14, at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park.

One of those students is 22-year-old Nadia Vega, who will be earning her Associate Degree in Nursing. She started in 2022 straight after finishing high school. Now she will be walking across the stage to celebrate this major milestone.

Read more about her path to graduation below.

Why did you choose ACC?

I chose ACC because of the resources and how convenient it was for me. I was told that ACC has one of the best nursing programs, so I decided to begin my journey here. My mom actually graduated from ACC with her ADN as well, so I like the idea of following in her footsteps.

What challenge did you overcome on your way to graduation?

I struggled with an overwhelming feeling and fear that I wasn’t going to make it to graduation. This last semester of nursing school was very hard on me, but I made it!

Was there a moment you knew you were on the right path?

My whole life, I have dedicated myself to pursuing nursing. It has always been my dream and passion to work in this career.

Any faculty or staff you’d like to recognize?

Honestly, all of my professors throughout my college journey. They have all been incredibly supportive and encouraging.

How did ACC support you?

ACC has supported me with a lot of resources, supportive faculty, and a learning environment that encouraged me to keep pushing forward.

What are you most proud of from your time here?

Making it to graduation with the degree I had been waiting for my whole life.

What’s next for you?

Pass the NCLEX, begin my journey working as a nurse, and come back to ACC to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

What advice would you give someone considering college?

You can do it! No matter how long it takes, it’s not easy, but it is so worth it. Some days will be harder than others, and there will be moments when you are going to rethink your life choices, but nothing compares to walking across the stage with the diploma you worked so hard for in your hand while hearing your family and friends cheer you on. Secondly, make friends who encourage and motivate you, because who you surround yourself with truly makes a difference. Lastly, don’t forget to make fun memories along the way.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you, Capital Idea, for your years of support. I also want to thank God for guiding me throughout this journey. Thank you to my husband, my mom, my in-laws, my siblings, and my friends for your prayers, your words of encouragement, and for always believing in me. I truly couldn’t have done it without your love and support.
