Facts:
- Single mothers make up 80% of single-parent households and 29% of all mothers nationwide.
- Of those mothers, more than 30% currently experience poverty.
- Those same single mothers represent about 11% of college students nationwide.
- BUT — only about 8% of those who attend community college will graduate within six years.
What can we do to support these students and their families? Austin Community College District (ACC) Chancellor Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart and the Jeremiah Program Austin invite you to join the discussion on Wednesday, September 16.
Inspired by Nicole Lynn Lewis’s book, “Student Parent: The Fight for Families, the Cost of Poverty, and the Power of College,” this conversation examines what it takes for parenting students to not only access higher education, but to persist, graduate, and build sustainable economic mobility.
Led by moderator and President & CEO of the Jeremiah Program, Chastity Lord, Lowery-Hart joins Nicole Lynn Lewis, Founder & CEO of Generation Hope and author of “Student Parent,” and Dr. Tiffany Tillis Lewis, Executive Director of Jeremiah Program Austin.
