Austin Community College District (ACC) celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 with a series of events and conversations across the district and online. This year is extra special to ACC as its Latin American Cultural Center, El Centro, celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes and celebrates the history, culture, traditions, and contributions of people and their ancestors from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
All events are free and open to the community.
The Write Mind with Jasminne Mendez
Tuesday, September 15 | 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. | El Centro, Riverside Campus
Hear from Jasminne Mendez, a Pura Belpré Honor Award recipient and a Dominican American poet, playwright, and author of several books for children and adults. She is also a poet, playwright, translator, and professional audiobook narrator.

Zine Making Workshop

The Art Galleries (TAG) bring their zine workshop series to El Centro! Learn how to make a mini-zine as a personal reflection. Materials provided.

Cafecito Con…Ezekiel Stear

Dr. Ezekiel Stear from Auburn University will visit El Centro to discuss his recent book, “Nahua Horizons: Writing, Persuasion, and Futurities in Colonial Mexico.” Light refreshments served.
