Austin, TX – November 15, 2007 – The ACC Foundation is proud to announce a new unique scholarship program that provides students with more than just money to pay for college – with mentors.

The 2007 Assistance League/Silverton Scholars Program is a collaboration between Assistance League of Austin (ALA) and the Silverton Foundation. The program provides ten $2,000 scholarships to students majoring in workforce or career programs, such as Nursing and Culinary Arts.

“The ACC Foundation is proud to partner with two such outstanding organizations,” said Alex Brown, ACC Foundation board chair. “With the Silverton Foundation providing the funding for scholarships this year and Assistance League of Austin contributing mentors from their membership, the students truly benefit from both financial and personal support.”

Assistance League first initiated the mentor component with their ALA Occupational/Technical Scholarship when they partnered with the ACC Foundation in 1998. To date, 74 scholarships have been awarded.

“The relationships we have developed with the ACC Foundation and the scholars they have provided us have made a substantial impact on our members, especially the mentors,” said ALA Scholarship Chair Margaret Kahn. “Being able to touch the lives of young adults pursuing their education leaves a lasting impression on all of us.”

“ACC values the commitment and support the Assistance League of Austin has provided our students since 1998,” said Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow, ACC District president/CEO. “Knowing the Silverton Foundation’s commitment to education, we are pleased they chose to partner with the Assistance League of Austin this year to create a new scholarships program that will benefit ACC students.”
