The ACC Fire Training Academy dedicated its new site on Wednesday, December 2, with live firefighting demonstrations by cadets and tours of the state-of-the-art facility.
“We are already a sought-after program, and our new site just enhances the training we are able to offer,” says Paul Menches, ACC’s Fire Protection Technology Program chair. “We are proud to showcase the facility and the fantastic work our staff and students are doing.”
The ACC Fire Training Academy is located in southeast Austin, on the grounds of the City of Austin Fire Training Academy.
“Forming a partnership with the City of Austin and the Austin Fire Department benefits us on many levels,” says Menches. “By sharing resources, we become even more efficient and better stewards of our community’s tax dollars.”
ACC was joined by Austin Fire Chief Rhoda Mae Kerr, City of Austin Mayor Pro Tem Mike Martinez, Fire Training Academy alumni, and officials with various local fire departments. Fall 2009 cadets performed a live firefighting demonstration in the “burn building” and a rappelling demonstration on the drill tower.

Chief Menches
ACC has found a jewel in Chief Menches. I was lucky enough worked with Chief Menches for a short time. His professional out look and his drive for training was and always will be a a great aid to me. Best of luck on the new center.
