ACC’s Criminal Justice Program Paves the Way for Future Law Enforcement Professionals

Austin Community College District (ACC) is redefining pathways to law enforcement careers with its Criminal Justice Program. Tailored to equip students with essential knowledge and skills, ACC’s program offers four associate degree tracks and specialized certificates, laying a solid foundation for careers in law enforcement, juvenile justice, social work, and more.

Criminal Justice Associate Degree

Students are prepared for careers as police officers, juvenile justice, and roles in corrections. ACC’s Criminal Justice associate degree program covers topics from criminal justice policies, law, and the court system.

ACC’s new Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice transfers seamlessly to Texas State University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and other colleges and universities. This pathway allows students to pursue a bachelor’s degree, which can enhance career advancement prospects within police departments.

ACC Public Safety Training Center

ACC’s Public Safety Training Center provides state-of-the-art training in firearms, police tactics and operations, emergency response, and more. Here, students receive practical and accessible training in guidelines, procedures, and essential skills, including emergency response, communication, crime prevention, investigation, and report writing.

The comprehensive police training program not only prepares students for real-world scenarios but also includes a capstone project and preparation for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) exam. This exam is a crucial step toward becoming a certified peace officer in Texas.

To accommodate working students who aspire to transition into law enforcement, ACC’s training center offers classes in the evenings. This flexibility ensures that students can balance their current jobs while pursuing their passion for a career in law enforcement.

Opportunities and Future Outlook

As the demand for well-trained law enforcement professionals grows, ACC stands at the forefront, preparing the next generation of leaders dedicated to serving and protecting their communities.

ACC’s Criminal Justice Program opens up many opportunities for its students. Graduates can seek employment in various law enforcement agencies, juvenile justice systems, and social work fields. Additionally, those opting to transfer to a four-year university can work towards earning a bachelor’s degree, positioning themselves for advanced roles and higher ranks within police departments.
