Austin Community College District (ACC) Board of Trustees officially certified the results of the November general election during a special meeting on November 14. Voters in the Lockhart Independent School District (LISD) territory approved the annexation measure, making Lockhart ISD a part of the ACC District.
“I think what the vote acknowledges is that the economic future of Central Texas rests on assuring our neighbors earn a certificate or degree to earn a family-sustaining income,” says ACC Chancellor Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart. “Lockhart is being aggressive in making sure their community is set for the future. It is clear that Lockhart sees the need for us to grow and thrive and needs us as a partner in that.”
With a decisive 61.2% of voters in favor, Lockhart ISD residents will now have access to valuable ACC benefits, including reduced in-district tuition, expanded educational resources, and workforce development programs—all available immediately with the certification.
Benefits of Annexation to Begin Right Away:
- Lower Tuition: Lockhart residents will benefit from in-district tuition rates, a savings of $201 per credit hour.
- Expanded Educational Offerings: ACC will phase in growth initiatives, beginning with career and workforce development programs tailored for in-demand jobs in Central Texas.
- Comprehensive Student Support: Access to ACC’s academic support, including tutoring, career counseling, and specialized programs at reduced costs.
- Enhanced Career Development: Partnerships with local businesses will provide internship, apprenticeship, and job placement opportunities for Lockhart students.
ACC looks forward to working with Lockhart community, the ISD, and elected officiations in the coming months to bring these educational advancements to the region. The first course offerings will begin in January.
