New “Day in the Life” Episode Spotlights Parenting Students at ACC

Austin Community College District (ACC) is preparing to release the next episode of its award-winning docuseries “Day in the Life.” The series gives viewers a firsthand look at life as an ACC student.

Produced by ACCTV in collaboration with Austin PBS and ACC Basic Needs Systems, the new episode focuses on one of the largest groups of students on campus — parents.

Nearly one in three ACC students is a parent. Balancing school, work, and family is a reality for thousands of Riverbats, and the upcoming episode captures that experience through the stories of three students navigating college while raising children.

Featured Students

  • Karol Iruegas, a mother of two and first-generation student studying Cybersecurity
  • De’Ja Reed, a General Studies major and mother of a toddler who receives child care support while working multiple jobs
  • Antonio Stoimenovski, a Computer Science & Information Technology student and father, supported through Capital IDEA

Through their journeys, the episode highlights the unique challenges and successes of student-parents, while also showcasing the resources ACC provides — child care assistance, flexible course formats, and financial aid — to help parents reach the finish line.

Day in the Life: Parenting Students will premiere Thursday, October 16, on ACCTV. You can also watch it on Austin PBS.

Stay tuned for a special series of screening events happening at campuses and across the community. The schedule will be released soon.
