ACC Celebrates Diez y Seis Sept. 16

Austin Community College invites the college and community to celebrate Diez y Seis, which commemorates Mexico’s declaration of independence from Spain more than 200 years ago and honors Mexican history, heritage, and culture.

ACC’s Diez y Seis event takes place Monday, September 16, from noon to 1 p.m. at Riverside Campus (1020 Grove Blvd.). It is free and open to the public.

The celebration will feature historians who will explain the meaning of Diez y Seis, traditional food dishes, Roy Lozano’s Ballet Folklórico, and musical entertainment from Johnny Degollado y Su Conjunto and ACC’s own Boca Abajo.

The event is presented by the ACC Center for Public Policy & Political Studies, the Latino/Latin American Studies Center, the Office of Student Success, Student Life, the Center for Student Political Studies, and former state Sen. Gonzalo Barrientos.
