On November 15 a topping out ceremony was held at Hays Campus to celebrate the halfway point of construction. This expansion, located next to the current Hays campus at 1200 Kohlers Crossing, Kyle, will feature a new instructional building, first responder training facilities, and increased parking.
The new first responder center will prepare students for critical front-line roles in law enforcement and emergency medical services. It will benefit students in ACC’s criminal justice and emergency medical services programs and serve as a resource for local agencies seeking facilities for continuing education and recertification.
Once complete, the 38-acre expansion will feature:
- Special classrooms for training emergency management technicians and others in emergency management operations
- Two buildings totaling 40,000 square feet
- Tactical indoor firing range
- 19-acre emergency vehicle operation training track
- Simunitions training space
The Hays Campus, which opened in 2014, enrolls nearly 1,700 students in transferable core curriculum courses, college-readiness classes, and the Pathway co-enrollment program with Texas State University. Degrees offered include criminal justice, computer information technology, and office administration. It was the first college campus to be built in Hays County, providing the Kyle/Buda area convenient access to general education and academic transfer opportunities, workforce education vital to local economic development, and foundation skills programs for those not yet college-ready.
