ACC hosts Financial Awareness Week

Austin Community College (ACC) hosts Financial Awareness Week October 14 through October 20 to provide resources that help students and their families learn ways to plan for their future and manage their college expenses.

“We understand getting through college can be difficult on a budget,” says Terry Bazan, executive director of Student Assistance. “Our goal is to showcase the resources and programs available at ACC and around the community, such as book support and scholarship search assistance, to help students reach their educational goals.”

Hosted by the ACC Financial Aid and Money Management offices, the events are free and open to the public.

An information fair will be held Monday, October 16, from noon to 2 p.m. at ACC Highland and Riverside campuses. Guests can attend workshops to get help with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and learn where to find money to pay for college. The 2018-19 FAFSA is available online beginning October 1.

To submit a FAFSA form, students must:

  • Enter ACC’s federal code 012015 in the school information section.
  • Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to help compile their information.
  • Create an FSA ID and password if needed.

The FAFSA is based on previously reported income and tax information. Applicants don’t have to wait until they know their income for the current year or make estimates. For 2018-19, applicants will submit their 2016 income and tax information.
