ACC Ranks in Top 10 for CPA Exam Rates in Texas

Austin Community College had the seventh-highest CPA exam success rate among major Texas colleges and universities for the period of March 2011 through February 2012. This is the college’s fifth consecutive year to rank in the top 10; ACC is the only community college to make the current list.

“This is a very significant accomplishment for the college and our students,” says Charles Quinn, dean of business studies. “The CPA exam requires a rigorous course of study, and this ranking reflects well on our program.”

The ranking is based on institutions with at least five candidates taking the exam during each testing window. ACC students passed approximately 56 percent of sections tested for the period. Here are the rankings, according to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy:

1.   Texas A&M University-College Station (71.82 percent of sections passed)

2.   University of Texas at Austin (68.65 percent of sections passed)

3.   Texas Christian University (66.24 percent of sections passed)

4.   Baylor University (66.2 percent of sections passed)

5.   Southern Methodist University (62.67 percent of sections passed)

6.   Texas Tech University (57.82 percent of sections passed)

7.   Austin Community College (55.77 percent of sections passed)

8.   Abilene Christian University (53.4 percent of sections passed)

9.   University of Dallas (52.54 percent of sections passed)

ACC’s Accounting Department is approved by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy to help students meet their educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam. In order to take the exam, a candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree with 150 credit hours, including coursework in accounting, accounting ethics, and business.
