ACC to pilot early college high school for homeschooled groups

Austin Community College (ACC) is launching a pilot program to provide an Early College High School (ECHS) pathway for independent learners starting this fall.

The early college high school initiative allows students to earn a high school diploma, an associate degree, and as many as 60 transferable credits that count toward a bachelor’s degree during the same four years.

ACC currently serves students at Austin, Bastrop, Elgin, and Manor ISD early college high schools. The pilot program extends the opportunity to homeschooled and other students in grades 9-12 currently without access to an early college high school.

“This is a rigorous, yet supportive program,” says Dr. Melissa Biegert, ACC early college high school director. “Highly motivated students have an opportunity to save significant time and money on their college pathway.”

The program will accept students who are entering 9th and 10th grades in fall. The application process begins April 6 and ends May 1. The cost of classes has not been determined.

Information sessions are scheduled at the following campuses between March 24 and April 2:

  • Pinnacle Campus: March 24, 7-8 p.m.
  • Round Rock Campus: March 26, 6-7 p.m.
  • Highland Campus: March 28, 10-11 a.m.
  • Cypress Creek Campus: April 1, 7-8 p.m.
  • Pinnacle Campus: April 2, 6-7 p.m.
