Summer Slowdown? Not at ACC

Summer is underway, but that doesn’t mean things are slowing down around the college. As of late May, more than 26,000 students had registered for summer classes, almost double the summer enrollment reported by other area colleges. Business courses have posted the largest increase in students over last summer.

Following is a run-down of other events happening in the coming months:

Last President’s Chat for 2012-2013: Stop by and visit ACC President/CEO Dr. Richard Rhodes Monday, June 10, at Highland Business Center Room 201 from 3 to 4 p.m.

Celebrate Juneteenth: All are invited to bring a picnic basket and blanket to the Eastview Campus to commemorate African-American emancipation in Texas and the end of slavery in the United States. Hear live performances by multi-faceted artists and some of Austin’s finest hip-hop musicians. Refreshments will be available. The free event will be Friday, June 14, from 10 a. m. to 5 p.m.

Bridge to Success: ACC’s Bridge Programs allow recent high school and GED graduates to refresh their skills and bring them to college level. Reading, math, writing, and “College Quickstart” classes will be offered.

Bon Voyage: More than 60 study abroad students accompanied by a half dozen faculty and staff will be learning and exploring other cultures in such locales as Barbados, Costa Rica, England, and Italy. The number of courses offered through the ACC study abroad program has grown to 30 in recent years.

Nurturing Young Scientists and More: From Science Saturdays to CSI Forensics Camp, ACC’s Youth Programs offer creative and fun camps and workshops for elementary, middle, and high school students. Programs focus on math, science, technology, and health science topics, as well as developing leadership skills. More than 300 youth have registered for these popular programs, most of which are already full.

Empowering Women: The ninth annual Women’s Health, Motivation & Empowerment Conference will be Saturday, July 20, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Eastview Campus Multipurpose Room (Room 8500).
