Austin Community College will present “A Special Afternoon with Temple Grandin” Thursday, Nov. 1, at the LBJ Auditorium on the University of Texas – Austin campus. The event will begin with a screening of the HBO film “Temple Grandin,” at 1 p.m. Grandin’s presentation will follow at 3 p.m. See event website<\/a>.<\/p>\n Registration has closed; however, ACC will broadcast Grandin’s presentation beginning at 3 p.m via streaming video. A recording of the presentation will be available later.<\/strong><\/p>\n Diagnosed with autism at age 3, Grandin is renowned both for her contributions to autism awareness and to the animal science field. Her innovative designs of equipment intended to reduce stress on animals have been adopted by livestock handling facilities throughout the country. She has authored several books, including The Way I See It: A Personal Look at Autism and Asperger’s, Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships<\/em>, and Animals Make Us Human<\/em>.<\/em> She currently is professor of animal sciences at Colorado State University.<\/p>\n Grandin’s personal story has appeared on “60 Minutes,” “20\/20,” “Larry King Live,” “Today,” and National Public Radio. In 2010, Time magazine named Grandin one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in the World.<\/p>\n Whole Foods Market is sponsoring Grandin’s visit.
