Gale Spear, professor of child care & development, has been selected as ACC’s nominee for the 2014 Piper Professor award for outstanding achievement by a college faculty member in Texas.<\/p>\n

Piper professor nominees are chosen for their effectiveness in dealing with students, as well as their activities and service outside the classroom.<\/p>\n

Gale Spear has taught at ACC since 1980.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Spear has taught at ACC since 1980. She co-chairs the Faculty Advising Committee and serves on the First Year Seminar steering committee, the Curriculum and Programs committee, and an SSI Goal Team. She also served as faculty liaison with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.<\/p>\n

In 1999 Spear established Teacher TRAC<\/a>, which provides financial aid to area child care professionals enrolling in child development courses at ACC.\u00c2 She is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and a peer reviewer for the NAEYC’s Early Childhood Associate Degree Accreditation Program.<\/p>\n

Given by the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation<\/a>, the annual Piper Professor award is bestowed on only 10 professors statewide. Recipients of the Piper award, which includes a $5,000 honorarium, will be named next spring.<\/p>\n
