Many of our own students have faced major conflict in their lives,\u201d says Dr. Shirin Khosropour, ACC professor of psychology and director\u00a0of the college\u2019s Peace &amp; Conflict Studies Center. \u201cCollectively, we as adults are responsible for creating safe environments where they can thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The symposium will include two panel discussions exploring the conflicts homeless, immigrant, and refugee children face as well as conflict children face in school.<\/p>\n<p>Co-sponsored by the college\u2019s Mexican American\/Chicano Studies and the University of Texas at Austin\u2019s Latin American Studies, the event will feature expert panelists including Sheerin Abbas-Hall of Austin Children&#8217;s Services, Dalell D. Mohmed of KinderUSA, and Barri Rosenbluth of SafePlace.<\/p>\n<p>Participants also will discuss the effect of immigration and absent parents on children and families in a screening and discussion of the film \u201cAl Otro Lado\u201d (To the Other Side).<\/p>\n<p>Learn more and register online at <a href=\"http:\/\/go.austincc.edu\/peace\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">go.austincc.edu\/peace<\/a>.
