{"id":34498,"date":"2015-06-02T16:30:06","date_gmt":"2015-06-02T16:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/?p=34498"},"modified":"2015-06-16T14:27:56","modified_gmt":"2015-06-16T14:27:56","slug":"acc-selects-bgk-architects-for-highland-phase-ii-renovation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.austincc.edu\/newsroom\/2015\/06\/02\/acc-selects-bgk-architects-for-highland-phase-ii-renovation\/","title":{"rendered":"ACC selects Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek Architects for Highland Phase II renovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>Design to begin on the region\u2019s first Workforce Innovation Center<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Austin Community College District Board of Trustees selected Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek Architects as the lead architect\/engineering team in partnership with \u00a0Perkins+Will (BGK Architects\/P+W) for Highland Campus Phase II during its regular meeting Monday, June 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPhase II is an important part of the Highland Project and it\u2019s vital that we continue the look, the feel, and the ambiance that\u2019s already generated so much excitement at Highland Campus,\u201d says Allen Kaplan, ACC board vice chair.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second phase of the ACC Highland redevelopment project. BGK Architects\u00a0oversaw Phase I, which converted the former JC Penney store into the ACC Highland Campus including the ACCelerator, the nation\u2019s largest learning lab.<\/p>\n<p>Trustees interviewed the firm along with\u00a0two other finalists during individual presentations at its May meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone in Austin seems to have some kind of connection to Highland Mall. ACC Highland has become a national model for sustainable, adaptive reuse,\u201d says Jay Barnes, BGK\u00a0Architects partner. \u201cWe look forward to renewing the community&#8217;s relationship with this iconic place in its new role providing innovative, quality education. We are thrilled to continue what we started four years ago, providing design excellence in support of ACC&#8217;s mission.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Phase II, funded by voter-approved bonds, includes approximately 400,000 square feet of former mall space. ACC staff will decide on programming over the next few months.
