A symbol of the seasons in Central Texas will have a little ACC flair this holiday. Art student Jeffrey Moore\u2019s work will hang from the branches of the House Chamber Christmas tree.<\/p>\n

The tree is decorated annually with\u00a0ornaments\u00a0from the 150 state representative districts.\u00a0 This year Rep. Elliott Naishtat\u2019s office reached out to ACC to commission a student with the honor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an exciting opportunity. We\u2019re grateful that Representative Naishtat selected ACC,\u201d says Dr. Matthew Daude Laurents, ACC art and humanities department dean. \u201cIt\u2019s our mission to provide students with access to significant opportunities for creative and professional development.\u201d<\/p>\n

ACC art professors immediately honed in on Moore for the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeffrey has a unique eye and an incredible talent,\u201d says Haydee Suescum, ACC art professor. \u201cHe knows where to find inspiration and how to manipulate that into a work of art.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moore poured hours of painstakingly detailed work into his design; celebrating Austin as the musical heart of Texas. He pulled his inspiration from a previous class project in which he had to develop a visual representation of a musical composition.<\/p>\n

Using a variety of media including acrylic paint and glitter, Moore transformed the once clear, glass ornament into an elaborate work of art. The ornament features a violet ribbon that appears to weave in and out and the number 49 in golden numerals in reference to Rep. Naishat\u2019s district.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeffrey took this amazing project to a new level. His design is delicate and intricate. No two views are the same,\u201d describes Suescum.<\/p>\n

The ornament will be on display in the Capitol’s House Chamber during the holiday season from December 4 through January 3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
