Elgin<\/h2>\n
ACC\u2019s Office of Facilities & Construction hosted a meeting of the Elgin Campus Steering Committee on Friday, January 22, to explore site placement and facility options for the Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship and the Veterinary Technology programs housed at the campus.<\/p>\n
Since outdoor space is a primary consideration for both programs, O\u2019Connell Robertson architects presented several site layouts and building configurations for the campus, which is bounded by a neighborhood subdivision to the north and major roadways to the south and west.<\/p>\n
These career-technical programs are regulated by state, federal, and accrediting organizations, so facilities must meet specific standards. These include the appropriate placement of a planned organic farm, which will include a crop rotation field on tillable land, a grazing pasture, an orchard, and a work and teaching facility near the recently constructed greenhouse and teaching pavilion. The Veterinary Tech program\u2019s facility design and placement adheres to standards for boarding and treating animals ranging from small pets to horses and cattle.<\/p>\n
Based on discussions with program leaders, architects will develop a proposal for separate structures on different areas of the site and present plans at the next steering committee meeting. The college will host a groundbreaking for the greenhouse and teaching pavilion later this spring.<\/p>\n

Leander<\/h2>\n
ACC Board of Trustees Chair Dr. Vic Villareal and Vice Chair Allen Kaplan proposed at the board\u2019s February 1 meeting that the Leander Campus be named San Gabriel Campus recognizing its vicinity to the San Gabriel River. Trustees voted to refer the proposal to the Leander Campus Advisory Committee to solicit community input.<\/p>\n
A groundbreaking for the campus is tentatively planned for later in the spring.<\/p>\n
Rio Grande<\/h2>\n
At their February 1 regular meeting ACC\u2019s Board of Trustees selected Bartlett-Cocke as the construction-manager-at-risk\u00a0for the Rio Grande\u00a0project. The firm, one of three finalists considered\u00a0out of 11\u00a0submitted proposals, oversaw Building 3000 renovations at the campus.<\/p>\n
Round Rock<\/h2>\n
ACC\u2019s Office of Facilities & Construction is proposing that Round Rock Campus development occur in two phases starting with construction of a new 45,286-square-foot building followed by renovation of existing facilities. The proposal was presented at a campus steering committee meeting Thursday, January 21.<\/p>\n
The new building is scheduled to open in summer 2018, with phase II renovations to be completed by fall 2018. When both phases are complete, the campus will feature:<\/p>\n

- A 12,085-square-foot ACCelerator\/Learning Lab with 200 specially-equipped computer stations.<\/li>\n
- Increased capacity from 5,000 to 6,000 students.<\/li>\n
- 13 additional classrooms.<\/li>\n
- 25 additional faculty offices.<\/li>\n
- Expanded and improved student services areas.<\/li>\n
- Additional nursing simulation space and sonography patient bays.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
The plan is pending review by the ACC president\/CEO and executive vice president\/provost, with construction set to begin March 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
