Austin Community College\u2019s (ACC) Veterans Advisory Committee invites the community to its first Veterans Mental Health Fair Wednesday, March 2, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Veterans Resource Center at ACC Highland (6001 Airport Blvd.).<\/p>\n
\u201cACC is committed to increasing awareness, understanding, and access for student veterans who often times deal with post-war experiences and conditions that affect the learning process,\u201d says Louella Tate, chair of the ACC Veterans Advisory Committee. \u201cHaving resources and specialized guidance available is crucial to their transition and success in college and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the fair, veterans can learn about resources that are accessible to them and\u00a0their families\u00a0through ACC and outside organizations. The event features a screening of the Oscar-winning documentary \u201cCrisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1,\u201d which profiles the first-hand work of V\u200beterans\u2019 Crisis Line counselors who support veterans struggling after serving in war. Screening times are 12:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. To ensure seating, participants are encouraged to register for a show time at https:\/\/2016screening.eventbrite.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n Both events are free and open to the public.
